Bee Cave holds its tax rate and approves a budget with a $1.49M surplus

At its September 22 meeting, Bee Cave City Council kept the city property tax rate at $0.0200 per $100 of valuation, where it has stayed for more than 15 years, and approved a budget of nearly $26 million. The city projects about $14.3 million in revenue against $12.8 million in expenses, with sales tax making up almost 78% of revenue. Community Impact reports an average taxable homestead value of $768,061 and an average city tax bill of $153.61. The budget and rate take effect October 1.

Development

City issues cease and desist to developers near Sweetwater

Bee Cave sent cease and desist letters on July 24 to two developers of three properties along Highway 71 near the Sweetwater community after construction began without city approval. The city says the existing stormwater and water quality ponds maintained by Lazy Nine MUD have not been shown sufficient to protect against flooding and pollution. City staff will monitor the properties and work with the Lower Colorado River Authority on compliance.

Council voids public safety building design contract and restarts procurement

Bee Cave City Council voted unanimously to void its contract with architecture firm PGAL for the planned public safety building, which is to house the police department and Lake Travis Fire Rescue Station 603. The city alleges the selection process violated the Texas Public Services Procurement Act, an allegation the former city manager's attorney disputes. The city says it will restart procurement for the building, which voters approved siting on city-owned land in May 2025.
